IT WAS WITH DELIGHT THAT I READ AND RE READ THIS SPLENDID ARTICLE, STEEPED IN EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THE NUANCES OF THE SUBJECT. WHAT A WARRIOR YOU ARE SIR! IM 66 NOW SO MY FIGHTING AND TRAINING REGIME HAD TO SLOW DOWN SOMEWHAT AND ALSO IM MORE AND MORE ABSORBING MYSELF IN THE JAPANESE SWORD ARTS. WITH THAT IN MIND THE ART OF WELL TIMED COUNTER IS SOMETHING IM PERSUING DILIGENTLY AND YOUR ARTICLE HAS GREATLY INSPIRED ME. THANK YOU! WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON FIGHTING SOMEONE WHO IS OF A TECHNICAL DEMEANOR AND STYLE RATHER THAN YOUR AGRESSIVE BRAWLER?
Hello Edwin. It's so good to hear from you again!š
Your kind words mean a lot to me, especially coming from someone with such depth of experience and a lifelong dedication to the martial arts.
Regarding your question, the adage "the circle can overcome the line and the line can overcome the circle" from comes into my mind.
As a technician can counter aggressive fighters with well timed counters, also a straightforward pressure fighter can use pressure fighting intelligently to push the other into making a mistake and losing their composure.
Also, their calculated approach can be neutralized by disrupting their rhythm, using feints, and controlling the tempo of the fight.
A good counter to a technical fighter is to force them into situations where their precision becomes harder to maintain. For instance, closing the distance quickly or creating angles they donāt anticipate.
You gave me a great idea for a topic to chose for my next articles.
And I'd love to hear more about your training journey and how you're incorporating these principles into your swordsmanship. Wishing you strength and flow on your path! š
VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT ARTICLE, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MEDITATIONS WITH REGARDS THE ART OF FIGHTING, TECH VZ. POWER/PRESSURE FIGHTER AND THE APPLICATION OF LINE VZ CIRCLE, GREAT STUFF!! WHEN TO YIELD WHEN TO PUSH THROUGH, BE LIKE WATER OR A BOULDER, SO FASCINATING
