Joriki 定力, or "stability strength," represents the ability to remain stable, undistracted, and focused. This term is often used in Zazen, a form of sitting meditation in Zen. It pertains to the mental power to redirect the mind to the breath rather than letting it wander. However, this skill of concentration goes beyond sitting meditation. It applies to various aspects of our lives, whether it's in martial arts, sports, work, social interactions, or any situation where our mind and actions must be as one.
It is a dynamic capability that, once harnessed, empowers us to act swiftly in unexpected situations, without needing a moment to regain our composure, and in a manner that aligns perfectly with the circumstances. One who has developed Joriki is no longer controlled by their emotions, nor are they entirely influenced by external factors. Always in control of both themselves and their life's circumstances, they can move with complete fluidity and composure.
