A Zen Story About Heaven And Hell:
Once upon a time, a troubled Rōnin (Masterless Samurai) roamed aimlessly along a dusty path. His appearance was disheveled, and the weight of a hangover burdened his soul. In the depths of his despair, a distant figure drew near – a wandering monk whose countenance held the aura of sacred wisdom.
As the monk drew nearer, it became evident that he held sacred wisdom in his countenance. When the monk finally passed by, the Samurai found his voice.
"Revered monk," he said, "I am burdened by a heavy heart, haunted by uncertainty about what lies beyond this life. Can you, in your wisdom, enlighten me about the distinction between Heaven and Hell?"
The monk, however, met his inquiry with a disdainful gaze. "You," he retorted, "are a pitiable and disgraceful Ronin, a masterless warrior with a heart devoid of mercy, a rusted blade that offers nothing to the world. Why should I deign to impart such sacred knowledge to a man so wretched?"
