In life, we often share parts of ourselves with others. Things like our fears, insecurities, frustrations. It’s natural to seek connection, to trust others with our vulnerabilities, hoping they’ll understand and support us. But what if, instead of receiving empathy, understanding, or encouragement, we’re met with manipulation, mockery, or even humiliation?

The test of toxicity is one we don’t always choose. In fact, it’s not so much a test as it is a revealing moment, a moment when the mask slips, a moment of weakness, and we get a glimpse of someone’s true character. The test isn’t about confronting them or calling them out directly. It’s about sharing something minor and personal, something seemingly innocuous, and watching how they respond. It’s not about making a scene or trying to trap them, it’s about paying attention. The way someone responds to your vulnerability tells you everything you need to know about them.
